Firefighters from North Warren, Campaign and Centertown responded to a combine harvester and field fire Friday afternoon on 360 Gath-Lucky Road.
North Warren firefighters first received the call about the 9500 John Deere combine fire around 4:30 p.m. with the blaze spreading to a field of soy beans. The combine is owned by Derwood Stewart.
“By the time I got there, North Warren had it under control,” said Campaign-Rock Island fire chief Jeff Matheney. “They were concentrating on the engine compartment, foaming it, which seals and takes the oxygen out.”
According to Matheney, roughly 4 acres were burned and although damaged, the combine is salvageable.
