Battles in elementary basketball will continue into next week, but postseason plans are already being put in place. Tournament dates are set for the District 1 and District 2 tournaments, which will be held at Bobby Ray and Morrison, respectively.
Games in District 1, which features Bobby Ray, Boyd, Hickory Creek, Irving College and West, are scheduled to begin Monday, Dec. 2. District 2 tournament games - which will feature Centertown, Dibrell, Eastside and Morrison - will start Tuesday, Dec. 3.
Both districts will crown their champions on Thursday, Dec 5.
The regular season has shifted this year in the 4-6 grade league as all nine teams faced off against each other for the first time in years. And while those battles have produced some exciting wins and thrilling finishes, losing teams can take solace in the fact they only need a week worth of wins to make a run at the county championship. The District 1 and District 2 tournament champions will face off Friday, Dec. 6 with Bobby Ray serving as the host site this year.
Regular season games will be used to seed this year's tournaments, though only games against district foes will be used for record purposes. So far, both Centertown teams have run out to a big lead in the District 2 standings with identical 8-0 records (4-0 in D-2 games), while the Hickory Creek girls and Boyd boys are currently leading the District 1 standings.
