MIDWAY FCEC
Members of Midway FCEC met Nov. 7 at the community center, with Lois Barrett and Sharon Bennett serving as hostesses. President Betty Grissom conducted the meeting, with devotional leader Jean Cantrell reading “Giving Thanks,” and “Laughter is the Best Medicine.”
Roll call was answered by 13 members, and secretary Dian Greene read the minutes of the October meeting. Treasurer Irene Fuston gave a financial report. Reading reports were given by Linda Schlimmer, Sharon Satterwhite and Bennett.
Elva Dean Bell displayed her scrap bed runner she made and quilted. Bennett shared the many ways to use Oxy Clean, and shared her holiday candy. Betty Grissom told of the many uses of coffee filters, and cupcake liners.
Winners of the pumpkin decorating contest at fall planning were Grissom, first; and Barrett, third. Fuston and Satterwhite will work the Bloodmobile this month. A monetary donation will be made to Share a Christmas Dinner and the nursing home Christmas activity. We will also be sponsoring a foster child this year, with Bennett and Satterwhite purchasing the required items. Members brought hygiene items for the middle school.
Santa’s Workshop will be held Dec. 3, with a breakfast brunch beginning at 9 a.m. A cookie swap and pine cone decorations will be shared, as well  as the council meeting.
A Thanksgiving luncheon was enjoyed by all, and the table was spread with turkey and dressing, ham, and a variety of vegetables, salads and desserts. The tables were decorated using a Thanksgiving theme and candy. Door prizes were provided by the hostesses, and a visit was set for Dec. 13 to Viola Valley Bed and Breakfast. Jazella Jahotia celebrated a November birthday with a cake made by our sweet baker, Mildred Spicer.
Our next meeting will be Dec. 5 at 9 a.m. for our breakfast.
HICKORY CREEK FCEC
Hickory Creek FCEC president Vickie Gibbs conducted the Nov. 1 meeting at the Extension office. Ann Whitman read Psalms 100, and secretary Nancy Chilcutt read the minutes. Mariam Jacobs gave a financial report.
Agent Hilda Lytle gave an educational report on vision safety while driving. Highlights of her talk were on peripheral vision and how it decreases as we grow older.
Whitman gave a report on flu shots from the educational meeting she attended.
Brenda Clark showed a quilt and pillow she made called “Jamestown Meets Ramblin Rose.” She won third on the pillow at the regional FCE meeting.
Five members reported reading books during October. Four members attended the fall planning meeting. It was decided the theme for the 2013 fair book would be “FCE at the Fair.”
Club members decided to meet at Fannie B’s this month to hold an auction. Residents will use play money to bid on auction items provided by club members. The group discussed upcoming events, a craft fair at Spencer, the Wonderland of Trees at Three Star Mall, and Santa’s Workshop to take place Dec. 3 at the Extension office. 
Members drew names for Christmas gift exchange, and Whitman opened birthday presents. The next meeting for the club will be Dec. 6 at Miranda’s Tea Room.
