An attempt to place the focus of the Christmas season on Christ is the inspiration behind a beloved Warren County holiday tradition, the McMinnville Nativity Festival.

The festival will be open at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 562 Shangri La Lane on Friday, Dec. 13 from 5 - 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14 from 3 - 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 15 from 1 - 6 p.m.

The annual display of Nativities from around the world attracts attendees from around the region, becoming a staple Christmas activity for many families.

"Several local guests tell us this is their main Christmas activity," said Miriam Crawford, an organizer of the event since its inception. "We also have regular attendees from surrounding areas."

In the spirit of last summer's Olympics, Crawford said there will be a special emphasis on international Nativities this year.

In addition to hundreds of Nativities from over 30 nations, the free event will include live music, artwork depicting the life of Jesus, a children's dress-up room, hundreds of poinsettias, Christmas trees and a take-home treat.

Anyone willing to share a Nativity set or Christ-centered artwork for display can contact Crawford at mcrawford@benlomand.net. Donations will be accepted on Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the church. More information can be found at McMinnville Nativity Festival on Facebook.
