Mr. Donald W. Hollingsworth, 81, passed from this life on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at his home in Spencer. Don was a life-long resident and native of Van Buren County. Born on August 18, 1942 to the late Howard Lee and Tabitha Sparkman Hollingsworth. He was retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, a 1960 graduate of Van Buren County High School and a member of Cummingsville United Methodist Church.

Don was passionate about serving his community with being on the Board of Directors and Committees for Ben Lomand Telephone Co-op (40 years), Farm Bureau (40 years), NTCA (40 years), Van Buren County Fair Board (30+ years), Citizens Bank of Spencer (30+ years), Tennessee Cattleman’s Association, Tennessee State Employees Association, UCHRA, City of Spencer Planning Commission, Head-Start Program, Van Buren County Democratic Party, Van Buren County Senior Citizens Board and many others.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife of over 30 years, Alma Sue Hurst Hollingsworth.

Don is survived by his loving family - son, Keith Hollingsworth; daughter, Karen Hollingsworth; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy (Carl) Madewell; granddaughter, Nila Jones; several nieces, nephews and extended family and running-buddies, Don Woodlee, Harold Robinson, Jerry Hodge, the late Jackie Clayton and B. D. Yates.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 23 at 3 p.m. in the Layne Chapel with Bro. Wayne Sullivan and R.C. Christian officiating. Burial will follow in Hodges Cemetery. Visitation times are Wednesday from 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of service at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Van Buren County Fair Association can be made at the funeral home or Citizens Tri-County Bank.
