Dr. Douglas Hillman Ehleben, 78, of Rock Island died Sunday, Oct. 5 at his residence. He was born Oct. 30, 1935, in Mayfield, Ky., and was a retired dentist serving the local community for several decades, a U.S. Army veteran, an active member of First United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday school teacher, delivered Meals on Wheels, served on several medical mission trips, and had many talents including painting, photography, stained glass production, enjoyed the outdoors, and hiking. Dr. Ehleben was preceded in death by parents William and Irma Douglas Ehleben.Survivors include his wife Jan VonAlmen Ehleben; their children, Alice (Grady) Parton, Laura (Frank) Avila, and Mark (Robyn) Ehleben; grandchildren, Jason (Ellen) Ehleben, Joseph (Rachel) Ehleben, Nathan McCormick, and Douglas Parton; three great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; brothers, Donald Ehleben and Billy Ehleben; and special nephew Martin (Amy) VonAlmen.A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Outreach Building of First United Methodist Church in McMinnville.

McMinnville resident and Warren County native Emma Jean Hoover, age 96, was born March 10, 1929 and died March 13, 2025 at her residence following an extended illness. A retired employee of Findlay and member of Westwood Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late Bryan Jennings and Myrtle Farless Nelson. She was married Nov. 29, 1947 to Harold Ross Hoover who preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 2025. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, J.B. Nelson, Wallace Nelson, Wesley Nelson, Everett Nelson and Leslie Nelson and sisters, Thelma Melton, Geraldine Webb and Ruth Taylor.
