James "Jimmy" Robert Mason, 84

Mr. James Robert Mason, better known as Jimmy, 84 of Quebeck, passed away at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024 at NHC of Sparta.

Mr. Mason was born July 23, 1939 in Walling, Tenn. to the late John Beecher and Mary Emma Thompson Mason. He was a retired carpenter and farmer. He enjoyed old westerns and bluegrass music, but most of all he was a stock car racing enthusiast. He was a regular at tracks from Crossville to the Nashville fairgrounds on Saturdays and by his television or radio on Sundays for Cup Series racing. Jimmy served 11years in the National Guard. 

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Janis Lynn Mason and his sister, Susie Mason.

Survivors include his three children, James Byron Mason and wife Sharron of Walling, Janet Kirby and husband Tracy of Sparta, Barry Mason and wife Debbie of Walling; grandchildren, Mary Beth (Adam) Price, Tisha (Will) Pelfrey, Beka (Josh) Christy, Tyler (Michelle) Mason, Trey Kirby and fiance’ Cary; and seven great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Emma, James, Harper, Liam, Lilith and Sophie.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial with military honors by the Veterans’ Honor Guard will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hunter Funeral Home. Randall Kirby and Eugene Lawson will officiate.

Tyler Mason, Trey Kirby, Will Pelfrey, Joshua Christy, Adam Price and Troy Wenger will serve as pallbearers.

Billy Wayne Stoner, 74

McMinnville resident and Athens, AL native Billy Wayne Stoner, age 74, was born May 24, 1950 and died suddenly on March 11, 2025 at Ascension St. Thomas River Park Hospital in McMinnville.

A retired employee of Middle Tennessee Natural Gas and a member of the Baptist church, he was the son of the late Grover and Dorothy Stoner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen Stoner, Wendell (Sarah) Stoner and Jerry Stoner.

Mr. Stoner loved to golf, fish and go camping. He loved his family and always put them first.

He was married to Linda Stoner of McMinnville on Jan. 6, 1970. In addition to his wife, Mr. Stoner is survived by two children, Terry (Tami) Stoner and Tammy Stoner (Dana Crouch), both of McMinnville; four grandchildren, Tyler (Whitney) Stoner, Caitlin (Austin) Orman, Heather Moats and Brooklyn (John) Rigsby; two great-grandsons, Ryker Rigsby and Rowen Rigsby; three brothers, Bobby Stoner, Mike Stoner and Kenneth Stoner, all of McMinnville; two sisters, Marie (Louie) Mason of McMinnville and Doris (Bob) Asbury of Murfreesboro; several nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law, Jannette Stoner and Connie Stoner.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2025 in High’s Chapel with Paul Cunningham and Johnny Haston to officiate. Interment will follow at Bethany Cemetery in Warren County. Visitation will be Monday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at High’s.
