McMinnville resident and Pelham native Joe Wallace Southern, 91, died April 1 at Raintree Manor after a lingering illness.A truck driver with Eaton Truck Lines and a member of Hiawassee Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Alex and Isabelle Reynolds Southern. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Mount Southern, brothers Waymon and Jack Southern, and sisters Cleo Wilkerson, Alberta Taylor, Vera Wilkerson, Lira Southern and Jessie Robertson.He is survived by son Michael Pleasant of McMinnville, sister Ruth Rutledge of McMinnville, nephews Sonny Rutledge, Jerry Rutledge and wife Dianne, Bill Rutledge and wife Phyllis, Bobby Rutledge and wife Linda, Larry Rutledge Sr., and wife Amanda, and Gary Rutledge and wife Norna, all of McMinnville, and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.Funeral service is Wednesday at 1 p.m. at High’s Chapel with George King Jr., and Phillip Smith Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at Corinth Cemetery.
