Rock Island resident and DeKalb County native Mary Sue Clemons Hillis, age 71, was born June 5, 1953 and died March 20, 2025 at Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro following an extended illness.
A factory worker and member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Stella Mae Dyer Clemons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Ronnie, Carol Lee, Darrel and Lynn Clemons.
Mrs. Hillis was married June 28, 1975 to Steve Hillis of Rock Island who survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children and spouses, Betsy Ann Hillis and Stacey Young and Jamie Les and Melissa Hillis all of McMinnville and Jessie Lee and Brittany Hillis of Rock Island; nine grandchildren, Kade, Remington and Allie Hillis, Mia, Jason and Jaiden Vass, Dylan Young and wife Caitlin and Brant and Moore Young; one great-grandchild, Renn Young; sister, Wanda Jane Kelley of Clarkrange; several nieces, nephews and cousins and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Linda Clemons of Alexandria, TN, Tom Hillis of McMinnville, Gary and Gail Hillis of Rock Island, Jeff and Jenny Wanamaker of Grundy County, Stan and Tracy Myers, Darlene and Anthony Malone and Retta and Dale Martin all of Rock Island, Lisa and Shawn Barrett of McMinnville and Sandra Stubblefield and Wayne Sullivan of Rock Island.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2025 in High’s Chapel with Samuel Bain and Jamie Hillis to officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery, Hwy 30. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at High’s.
