This is a saying that I heard from my dad when I was growing up on his farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. He knew a lot about mules because his father had used them on their farm in that same mountain range in Southwestern Virginia when he was a young boy. Daddy had a striking team of mules named Jocko and Jane that he plowed the fields with before he got his first tractor in about 1962.
