Still waters run deep is a very old proverb, which, though I heard it as a youth, doesn’t seem to be in common usage anymore. I think that is a shame and chose to use it for this week’s column. It has true meaning, and it needs to be brought to the attention of modern Americans.
This proverb is truly ancient and of Bactrian origin from a tiny area of ancient Persia now a part of Afghanistan.
