Adams started the rally with a
free throw, only for Turner to follow
up on the next possession with a
pull-up, 12-footer from the baseline.
Keyton Reno kept the run rolling
with a free throw with 53.9 seconds
left, then the Pioneers turned a steal
at midcourt into three quick points
as Isaiah Robledo got his hands on
a pass and fed Turner for a wing
triple.
Adams was able to beat the buzzer
with some fancy footwork, using
a perfect step-through in the paint
to beat a double team and score
over a big back line of the Lion defense.
Turner kept his long-ball barrage
rolling in the fourth, drilling
a 3-pointer from right in front of a
packed student section to make it
41-29. Columbia would never get
the deficit below single figures the
final six minutes as the Pioneers
clamped down defensively and relied
on opportunistic offense to put
the game away.
Columbia took 2-of-3 matchups
between the two top 9-4A squads
last year, but the Pioneers looked
locked in and ready to send a message
early Thursday. Chance Whitlock
had an emphatic dunk in the
first quarter, showing the Pioneers
had the strength and athleticism to
overpower a big Columbia starting
lineup.
A 3-pointer from Devin Fish
and two triples from Felton in the
second quarter kept the Pioneers
rolling. The fourth long ball of the
quarter, made by Adams on the left wing, allowed Warren County to
lead 23-18 at halftime.
The Pioneers ended up leading
wire-to-wire, with Columbia only
cutting the lead down to a one-possession
game once in the second
half.
Warren County can make it seven
in a row when it travels to face
Spring Hill Tuesday. Tip-off is set
for 7:30 p.m.
