The Women’s B division in Church League softball has been taken over by Pioneer.
Pioneer put its stamp on the league by winning a battle between the top two teams Tuesday night on Field 1 at Warren County Fairgrounds. Pioneer pounded Locust Street 18-1 and improved to 4-0 in the process.
Pioneer took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, getting an RBI triple by Callie Orrick and RBI singles from Autumn Hargis and Amy Martin.
After a scoreless second inning, Pioneer moved its advantage to nine by stringing together seven straight hits in the third inning.
Misty Neal began the rally with a single, which was followed by a double from Autumn Hargis and singles from Martin and Tina Helton.
Danielle Wamsley, Misty Hargis and April Rubley had three consecutive doubles to help Pioneer end the inning with a 9-0 lead.
Locust Street scored its lone run in the bottom of the third. Hilary Teeters was brought around on a single by April Ogle.
Pioneer responded with six more runs in the fourth, then three more in the fifth to cruise to a 17-run win.
Orrick finished 4-for-4 to lead Pioneer. Neal, Martin, Lauren Trail and Autumn Hargis added three hits apiece.
Hilary Teeters, Liz Hoch and Christy Perry had two hits apiece for Locust Street, which dropped to 3-2.
While Locust Street was losing on Field 1, First Baptist was closing ground in the Women’s B division standings on Field 2.
First Baptist used a 10-run sixth inning to beat Cornerstone 23-8 and improve to 2-2.
First Baptist and Cornerstone were locked in a 8-8 stalemate after four innings, but First Baptist would be the only team to score in the final two innings.
First Baptist scratched across five runs in the fifth, then exploded for 10 runs in the sixth inning. First Baptist put together 12 hits in the sixth inning, led by an inside-the-park home run by Ashley Welcome.
By the time Cornerstone finally recorded the final out in the sixth, the team faced an insurmountable 15-run deficit.
Brittany Frazier had a starring role in the First Baptist lineup. Frazier finished 6-for-6, including two inside-the-park home runs. Oshe Smith, Breanna Foster and Kaylee Murray had five hits each, while Kimba Warden, Tee Smith, Lauren Lytle and Kadi Gladville finished with four hits apiece.
Hailey Jones had four hits, including a first-inning, inside-the-park home run, to lead Cornerstone. Liza Carvell added four hits.
In the lone Women’s A division game, Madison Street improved to a league-best 3-0 by defeating Covenant 20-5.
Emily Lopez, Tonya Swann and Lori Judkins led a 12-run charge in the fourth inning by combining for six hits. The big inning led to Madison Street run-ruling Covenant after four innings.
Lopez, Swann, Judkins, Hilary Helton and Tracey Scott each had four hits to help Madison Street to its third straight win.
Kesley Smith and Lauren Zechman led Covenant with two hits apiece. Covenant fell to 0-2 with the loss.
