Griffin leading Lady Wildcats

Hannah Griffin, pictured cutting down the nets at Bryan College, has been named the newest 5-6 grade girls basketball coach at Dibrell.

New coaches continue to pop up all across Warren County. Dibrell was the latest to fill its seat atop the basketball bench, bringing in Hannah Griffin to be the head coach of 5-6 grade girls basketball.

Griffin, 24, brings college experience to the Lady Wildcats, both as a player and as a coach. Griffin played four years of JV basketball at Bryan College and also served as the varsity manager for four years before being a graduate assistant in her final year in Dayton.

Griffin has always been around the courts growing up and wanted to pursue her passion for basketball as a coach after her playing days.

“I’m super excited to be coaching. I’m looking forward to growing my team as well as growing as a coach,” said Griffin, who will also be teaching fifth grade math at Dibrell.

Griffin found her niche on the court early, emerging as a sharpshooter at Covenant Academy. She played seven years as a Lady Lion, spending most of her time floating at the 3-point line ready to launch.

Her growth as a player and coach continued at Bryan, where she was able to serve on the sidelines in a variety of capacities as Bryan College made it to the NAIA National Tournament five consecutive years.

Griffin soaked up the valuable coaching experience in college and wants to bring it toward the Dibrell sidelines this winter.

“I’m hoping to draw on the experiences that I had with great coaches in how they cared for me as a person, but pushed me because of the potential they saw in me. I also hope to be an encouraging leader in the way I give instructions,” said Griffin.

While her foray with the Lady Wildcats will be the first time she is on the sidelines as a head coach, it may just be the start of a budding career. Griffin has been thinking about coaching ever since seeing a legend lead the Lady Vols.

“From a young age, I have had the passion to be a coach. I used to love watching Pat Summitt coach and continue to have respect for great coaches in all sports,” said Griffin. “I can see coaching as being something that I hope to continue doing.”

Dibrell will get its season started in the Warren County 5-6 Grade Elementary League this November.
