The Shelbyville girls basketball team probably doesn’t like the sight of Warren County.
The Lady Pioneers beat Shelbyville for the third time this season, capturing a 48-32 road victory Tuesday night.
The win is the 20th of the season for Warren County, which improves to 20-5. It’s the first 20-win season for the Lady Pioneers since 1998-99.
“As a program, 20 wins is certainly a milestone,” said Warren County coach Anthony Lippe. “If you can accomplish that, you’re doing something right. We’re happy for 20 wins and what that means, but we also want to be successful in the tournament. We put on our board at the start of the year 20-plus wins as a goal so we want to keep going.”
The Lady Pioneers are set to face their district nemesis Friday night when Coffee County pays a visit to Charlie Dalton Gym. It will be the third time the teams have played in three weeks with Coffee County winning the previous two meetings.
Warren County hasn’t scored more than 40 points in both losses to Coffee County, which plays smothering man-to-man defense. The Lady Raiders are big and physical inside.
In both losses to Coffee County, the Lady Pioneers have been outscored 19-4 in the third quarter.
“Those first two games, we came out flat in the second half,” said coach Lippe. “We have to be more consistent. You’re not going to beat Coffee County playing two or three quarters. We have to be ready to play for four quarters.”
In the Shelbyville game Tuesday night, Warren County used balanced scoring with six players scoring at least 6 points. The win improves the Lady Pioneers to 5-2 in district play and keeps Shelbyville winless at 0-6.
