The top of the District 9-4A standings are mirror images after Tuesday night. Warren County stands alone in both girls and boys basketball.

The Lady Pioneers and Pioneers both moved to 2-0 in district play Tuesday with impressive road wins at Spring Hill. The WCHS girls built a big early lead before hanging on to defeat the Lady Raiders 40-36, while the Pioneers blasted Spring Hill 56-29 for their seventh straight victory.

The Lady Pioneers, now 5-12 overall, led 24-9 at halftime on the road Tuesday thanks to their tenacious defense. Warren County held Spring Hill scoreless for over 10 consecutive minutes of playing time in the first half - a streak only broken when the Lady Raiders banked in a triple before halftime.

Warren County did a ton of damage with the long ball in the first half, with Trinity Reynolds, Brinlee Griffith and Brynlee Chisam hitting three 3-pointers in a row to help the Lady Pioneers build a double-digit lead in the first half.

Chisam, who scored a team-high 13 points, gave the Lady Pioneers their biggest lead - 17 points - on back-to-back baskets to open the second half. Warren County was still leading 38-24 when Reynolds hit her third triple of the night with 5:51 left in the fourth, but it proved to be the final field goal for Warren County.

Spring Hill responded with a 12-0 run over the next five minutes,  making it a two-point game with 21 seconds left on a jumper.

Griffith was able to come up clutch when the Lady Raiders tried to foul and extend the game, sinking two free throws with 9.2 seconds left to seal the victory.

In boys action, the Pioneers started the game on a 10-1 run and never looked back.

Warren County (11-3) supplemented a struggling night of shooting with tenacious defense (13 steals, four blocks) and pounded the glass as the Pioneers outrebounded the Raiders 40-30.

Turning defense into offense was also key for the Pioneers as they scored 18 points off turnovers, including Keyton Reno slamming home an alley-oop off a lob from Deashawn Adams following steal in the third quarter.

Both Warren County teams can stay atop the district standings with wins Friday at home against Shelbyville. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Charlie Dalton Gym.
