Not even the insufferable heat from the blazing summer sun can stop the Warren County High School Band from ensuring their audience gets an incredible performance. Band Camp for WCHS is underway and has seen the talented musicians practicing for their performances of “Queen 2,” a rocking good time that will have many favorites from the classic rock band, Queen. 

Any well-formed unit has to have a strong core, heart and backbone. For the WCHS band, Emery Stefanic, Lexie Hollingsworth and Willow Neal are just that. Stefanic, drum captain for the band, is no stranger to the role. “This is my second year doing this,” said Stefanic. “I am a rising senior and honestly, I love what I do. I have been playing tenors this year, and I played snare for my last three years. I played keyboard before that. So, I have a good history marching in this program and I really appreciate everything this program has done for me. I love it and it has been a great experience for me.” 

Hollingsworth is the band’s drum major, and has put quite a lot of time into drumming. “I am an upcoming junior, and this is my first year as drum major,” she said. “I used to play percussion, but starting off this year as drum major, it has taught me a lot. It has taught me to respect bandmates more, and it has taught me more about band overall. It has given me a good sense of leadership and direction. It takes a lot, and it is a big difference due to how big of a step up it is, but I am just really thankful to have had this chance to do this.”

Neal, the band captain, said she is quite excited for what this practice and rehearsal yields. “I am a senior and this is my first year as band captain, but I am so excited for this year. Everyone here has just worked incredibly hard. Our show is titled “Queen 2,” and it has so many hits and familiar favorites. Songs like “We Will Rock You,” and “We Are the Champions,” are parts of the set. If you want to know what else will be included in the show, you will just have to come see it at the games!”
