Highland Rim race may endure

The Highland Rim Cycling Classic may not be a thing of the past in McMinnville, even though the Chamber of Commerce has announced it will no longer be sponsoring the event. A Warren County company called Living Well Events is in the process of taking up the baton for one of the region’s premiere bicycle races, with the plan of turning the whole weekend of May 5-6 this year into a health and wellness festival.Event manager Tracy Martin says the company still has some permits and other business to attend to before the process is finalized, but everything looks like a go at this point.“We’ve been producing events in Tennessee since 2009,” Martin said. “We started on the West Coast in 1993 and we moved here in 2009.”Although it’s not definite at present, Martin says the company will be initiating a major advertising campaign in the near future.“We’re in the last step,” Martin said.

Pacesetters building inches closer to surplus

The location formerly known as the Pacesetters building is one successful read away from being declared surplus by the City of McMinnville. During Tuesday evening’s regularly scheduled Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting, the matter was brought forth after it had been recommended by the Building and Grounds Committee in the last February meeting. The committee determined, through data collected by a void analysis, the property was best used as retail or commercial real estate rather than repurposed by the city.
