The $50,000, five-year McMinnville Parks and Recreation Master Plan that was presented Tuesday night was financed through a $48,000 grant. The city’s responsibility was just $2,000 and officials say the financial benefits will be exponential.
“Best $2,000 ever spent,” said city administrator Nolan Ming.
Ming says not only will the five-year Master Plan be a very helpful document for the city to plan future projects, it will actually help secure grant funding for those projects.
The Master Plan’s purpose is to serve as a road map of opportunity to expand and better serve the community through recreational services. The recommendations found by the consultant, RaganSmith, are solely recommendations.
The RaganSmith plan indicates there was a desire expressed for more greenways and blueways, more parks, and an indoor pool, based on feedback from the public.
The five-year Master Plan also opens a wealth of new grant opportunities.
“We will be able to apply for larger grants in the range of $250,000 to $500,000 thanks to now having a detailed plan of execution on projects,” said Michael Benusches, facility manager of Milner Recreation Center.
