It is always nice to have someone in your corner and, during the most difficult of times in our lives, the staff at Gentiva Hospice are the ones in patients' corners.

Formerly known as Avalon Hospice, the company just celebrated the change of its name to Gentiva Hospice after a chain of small facilities were purchased by Humana.

Marli Rigsby, the patient care manager, says that the facility is dedicated to providing end of life care. “We have an interdisciplinary team that not only assists the patient but the families as well. We try to give the families time to be family rather than caregivers.”

Savannah Stewart, the executive director for Gentiva, shared her thoughts on the name change saying that Humana’s goal in purchasing the facilities was to unite them all under the same name. “We are now unified across the nation under the Gentiva name. Nothing changes with our company. We will still provide the same in-home hospice care that we always have, just under a new name.”

Gentiva Hospice is located at 28 Snow Hollow Ln. and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Gentiva Hospice can be reached at (931) 474-8015.

An auction to benefit education is coming up, and it brings with it almost 200 items.

The auction is being hosted by Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) at its McMinnville campus in an effort to fundraise for students attending the Skills-USA TN competitions. Beginning at 3:30 p.m. on April 10, the auction items will be open for viewing and the sale itself will begin at 5 p.m.

There are a variety of items to be auctioned, and include items the school has deemed surplus in addition to donated items which range from auto parts to accessories.

TCAT offers 12 career and Technical Education programs at its McMinnville campus, all in a broad range of high-demand, high-wage fields at affordable tuition rates. Many students attend tuition-free, through Tennessee Promise for new high school graduates and TCAT Reconnect for adults with no college degree or other postsecondary credential.
