The Black House will be serving delicious food on Saturday, Oct. 12, during its annual Fish Fry fundraiser.
“Chef Marvin Lusk will be this year’s cook,” said Black House executive director Jeanette Lowery. “Guests will be served huge pieces of delicious fish, sides of slaw, fries, hush puppies, and a drink for $8.”
Lunch is served beginning at 11 a.m. Desserts will be available. Entertainment is offered. Tours, offered by 4-H Club members, of the house will begin at 9 a.m. at a cost of $5 per person.
The Black House was built by Jesse Coffee in 1825 and is the oldest remaining residence in McMinnville. It was unique in the fact that it was brick, with the original grounds situated on 13 acres. The property was acquired by the Thomas Black family in 1874, providing the home its most lasting name.
The house was deeded to the Eagle Club in the 1980s and under the guidance of Lowery has been restored for future generations to enjoy. Funds netted from the event will go toward upkeep of the property.
