The Bonner FCE club met on March 5, at Helen’s on the Green at the Country Club, for a special meeting and a delicious lunch. President Joyce Britton called the meeting to order at 11 a.m. There were no visitors or new members. Chaplain Janice Boyd presented a devotional and then led us in a short prayer. After reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, our 11 regular members answered the roll call question, “What is more important to you: Style or Comfort?”
Secretary Brenda Mitchell read the minutes of the last meeting, and they were approved as read, with no additions or corrections. Treasurer Mary Mann gave a financial report and noted expenditures.
Vice President Myrna McKinley asked for a report from our Global Leaders. The country of Belgium has been chosen for our International Day on May 17. We will have a presentation, teaching us details about Belgium and its people. Each club will bring food representing Belgium. We will bring one main dish, side dish, bread, dessert, and two 2-liter drinks.
Crafts were shown by Mary Mann (a hand-made paper gift box), Becky Manning (a beaded keychain) and Lucy Eastman (a mixed media painting she had done). Janice Boyd showed a vintage hat from the 50s. McKinley then asked for our Community Volunteer Unit hours. Reading reports were given by Britton, Mitchell, Mann, Jean Inman and McKinley.
Teresa Priestley gave details about the Child Advocacy Gala, which will be April 12 at the Milner Recreation Center. It is a worthy cause and their main fundraising event of the year. The fun theme this year will be “Roaring 20s -Gatsby Style!” Tickets are still being sold for this exciting evening.
Britton gave the information for the Leadership Retreat, which will be held on May 19-22 in Pulaski. The Awards and Recognition Day will be April 17 in the Magnolia Room on Locust Street. Chair volleyball practice will begin on March 25 at 1 p.m. at the Westwood Church of Christ on Morrison Ave. The next meeting will be April 1 at 10 a.m. in the Magnolia Room. The club adjourned after marking Gold Stars and reading the FCE Creed.
