Christmas parade will go on

The Grinch couldn’t stop Christmas and neither can COVID-19. McMinnville will have its annual Christmas parade this year, albeit one week later than usual.

McMinnville’s 2020 Christmas Parade has been scheduled for the second Saturday of December.
“We need to discuss and make a decision on the Christmas parade,” said Mayor Ben Newman during a meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. “Plans need to start being made for that, if we’re going to do it. Let’s say whether we are going to do it or not.”
Vice Mayor Ryle Chastain voiced his support for holding the parade.
“It’s an outdoor event. People can spread out and be cautious,” said Chastain. “The feedback I’ve gotten from the community is there are quite a few people upset that there’s not going to be a Trail of Treats this year, and understandably so. I would be fine with moving forward and providing a Christmas parade for the holidays.”
“If we’re going to do it, we need to do it now,” said Alderman Everett Brock of the need to make a decision.
The city’s parade is customarily offered on the first Saturday of December. McMinnville Parks and Recreation director Scott McCord suggested pushing the date to Dec. 12 to allow for a little more time and planning.
A theme has yet to be selected.
City board members unanimously voted to allow the 2020 McMinnville Christmas Parade to take place on Saturday, Dec. 12. No start time has been announced.
