If you needed a sign to encourage you to help shape local regulations, this is it.
The City of McMinnville is seeking input from citizens in regards to its proposed sign code update. In an effort to update the code and create a more intuitive and user-friendly experience, the city has constructed a brand new document featuring illustrations and navigation.
At the core of the update is a transition from regulating the contents of signs and instead simply enforcing when, where and how they can be displayed in an effort to establish equitable standards and compliance with federal laws.
However, the community is being afforded an opportunity to further hone the scope of the changes.
In the survey hosted by the city, participants are asked about their homeowner status, familiarity with current signage codes, concerns about signs (amount, size, location, materials, etc.), timing for temporary signage, reviews of the new document’s format and layout and are provided an additional field to submit feedback not covered in the previous questions.
The present timeline for the adoption of a new sign code indicates potential revisions from public input will be reviewed in April before it will prospectively be pushed to the city’s Planning Commission in May. If approved for recommendation by the commission, it could come before the Board of Mayor and Aldermen for final consideration as early as June.
The survey takes only a few minutes to complete and can be found on the City of McMinnville Government’s Facebook page. Participants have until April 1 at 7 p.m. to submit their feedback.
