Cookeville reporter Brian Wilmoth has been named the new editor of the Southern Standard.

Wilmoth joined the Cookeville newspaper in August 2023. Both the Herald-Citizen and the Southern Standard are owned by Paxton Media Group. He was formerly the editor of the Livingston Enterprise, Celina Citizen-Statesman and the Jackson County Sentinel.

“I am looking forward to working at the Southern Standard and getting to know the folks in McMinnville,” Wilmoth said. “My hope is we can produce a paper that highlights the best of what this community has to offer.”

In his time at the Herald-Citizen, Wilmoth covered courts and crime, breaking news, the cities of Algood and Baxter, along with investigative and feature reporting. The Cookeville native began his media career as a broadcaster for Clear Channel Communications in Cookeville before moving to WLIV radio for several years.

Wilmoth is a 1996 graduate of Cookeville High School and holds a Bachelor of Science in management from the Metropolitan State University of Denver and a Master of Divinity from the Iliff School of Theology in Denver.

Wilmoth’s first day at the Southern Standard was Monday.
