Warren County is joining Tennessee Music Pathways with a marker dedicated to legendary singer Dottie West. An unveiling and dedication ceremony is being held Monday.
“Our musical roots run deep in Warren County, and we are are proud to announce the first addition to the state’s Music Pathways trail,” said Sarah Cantrell, Tourism Development Board chairman. “An unveiling and dedication ceremony for the Dottie West marker will be Monday, Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m. at the front steps of the Chamber of Commerce in Court Square.”
The state’s newest tourism initiative is spreading across Tennessee. Music Pathways is an integrated, driving trail linking the state’s history to the seven genres of distinct American music: blues, bluegrass, country, gospel, soul, rockabilly and rock ‘n roll.
From big cities to small communities, this statewide program identifies, explains and preserves the legacy of music in Tennessee. Be it a story of the past, a star of the present, or the promise of the future, Tennessee Music Pathways helps you follow the music.
Warren County is joining the driving tour with a marker for country music legend Dottie West. Along with her friends and fellow recording artists Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, West was considered one of the genre's most influential and groundbreaking female artists. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
West was born Oct. 11, 1932 and died in a tragic car accident in September 1991. She is buried beside her mother and other family members in Mt. View Cemetery.
TDB will host the ceremony with representatives from the Tennessee Department of Tourism in attendance, as well as local dignitaries. After the marker dedication, a wreath will be placed on West’s grave at Mt. View Cemetery in honor of her birthday.
The public is invited to attend both happenings, the marker unveiling at Warren County Chamber of Commerce on Monday at 3:30 p.m. and the wreath placement immediately following.
