A local man accused of attempted rape will have his case heard by the grand jury after being bound over Thursday afternoon.

Christopher Elrod had a preliminary hearing in General Sessions Court Thursday, with Judge Ryan J. Moore ruling probable cause existed to bind the case to the grand jury.

Elrod, 29, is accused after an Oct. 4 incident when he allegedly went to the victim’s residence to repay money she had loaned him and his wife.

While at the victim’s residence, the arrest warrant alleges Elrod went inside the home after reportedly receiving the victim’s permission to use the restroom, while his wife waited outside in the car.

Once inside the home, Elrod allegedly asked to see the victim’s breast and other parts of her body, and reportedly attempted to lift her nightgown and asking her to join him in the restroom. When she refused, Elrod allegedly grabbed her by her shoulders and forced her into a back bedroom, throwing her onto the bed and exposing himself before attempting to have intercourse with her. The victim told officers she was able to fight off Elrod’s advances, at which point he left her residence. Upon speaking to Elrod, officers reported he admitted to being at the residence and had scratches on different parts of his body which were reportedly consistent with the victim’s account of the altercation.

In addition to binding the case to the grand jury, the court also raised Elrod’s bond from $200,000 to $300,000, and set a bond condition of a GPS monitor with victim notification and exclusion zones should he be able to post bond. The conditions stipulate not only will Elrod be ordered to wear a monitory, he must avoid contact with the alleged victim and notify the victim if he is required to be in certain areas where they may accidentally have contact. All expenses for the monitoring system, should Elrod make bond, will be paid by him.
