Corndogs, cotton candy and face painting.
The Warren County A&L Fair is just around the corner, which means get ready for fun.
The face painting booth under the grandstand has been a fair staple since 1993. The initial goal of booth founder Fay Youngblood was to raise money for a clown ministry in another country.
Stephanie Sauer leads the face painting booth now with a big helping hand from Sheri Denning. All proceeds raised from face painting go entirely to charity.
Face painters are needed, now more than ever with a full nine days of carnival rides expected to generate even more crowds on a nightly basis. Denning says organizers would like around 20 total face painters to plug into various time slots throughout the fair.
If you’d like to volunteer, a free face painting seminar is being held today, Sunday, Aug. 28, at Warren Arts, 5482 Manchester Highway, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
“It’s a lot of fun and you don’t have to be perfect,” said Denning, who noted it does help if the person is artistically inclined. “We need to have five or six painters in the booth during prime times on Friday and Saturday nights. We’ll also need one person to volunteer who is not a painter to take money and keep the flow moving.”
Services include a full face paint, a half face paint, or a simple cheek design. A wide variety of designs can be painted. Denning said some of the more popular include an ice princess design from “Frozen,” superheroes, flowers and butterflies.
The fundraiser generates funding for local nonprofits and those who volunteer get a say where the money goes. Those interested in learning how to face paint so you can volunteer at the fair, stop by Warren Arts on Sunday afternoon from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
