Former Warren County Sheriff’s Department drug investigator Steven Carpenter has been indicted on three counts of official misconduct. 

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, in September 2022, TBI agents began investigating Carpenter, 39, on complaints of potential official misconduct at the request of District Attorney General Chris Stanford. During the investigation, agents developed information that resulted in the Warren County Grand Jury returning indictments charging Carpenter with three counts of official misconduct on June 2. 

According to the TBI, Carpenter surrendered himself to authorities on June 8. He was booked in Warren County and released on his own recognizance. According to his intake information, he was taken into the jail 7:17 p.m. and released at 7:45 p.m. The prosecution is currently being handled by protem District Attorney General of the 14th Judicial District, Craig Northcott.
