A house caught fire on Katie Lane Monday afternoon and is a total loss.

The house on 265 Katie Lane belonging to Amy Worzek Taylor and her husband, Benji Taylor, was engulfed in flames at approximately 2 p.m. on Monday. The couple lived there along with Amy's son, Eli Black, and his 6-year-old daughter. According to North Warren Fire Chief Ramie Roberts, it is unknown what caused the fire. He said it looked like it started in the bedroom area of the house.

North Warren Fire Department responded and requested mutual aid to fight the flames. Centertown Fire Department, Rock Island Fire Department and Collins River Fire Department assisted. Roberts says about 16 firefighters were on the scene fighting the blaze.

Wind was a big factor in keeping the flames burning. The house was located on top of a hill which caused more wind exposure.

“One of our biggest issues was the wind,” said Roberts. “The wind really fought us to gain control of the fire. Once we did, it was a total loss.”

There were no injuries as a result of the fire. The home owners were in the shop next to the house when it caught fire. The fire briefly reignited Tuesday morning and was quickly extinguished.

An account has been set up at Citizens Tri-County Bank in McMinnville for anyone who would like to donate to the family.
