The annual Morrison Citizenship Award of the Year recipient has been announced.
Morrison Ruritan is scheduled to honor Charlie Hullett Jr., this year’s awardee, during its annual Citizenship Banquet on Saturday, March 29 at 6 p.m.
In a world where dedication and hard work will often go unnoticed, Hullett stands as a shining example of community spirit and business success in the small town of Morrison. Recognized with the Morrison Citizenship Award of the Year, he has transformed his early beginnings at his father’s mobile gas station into a thriving business, representing the values of perseverance, integrity and commitment which inspire those around him.
Hullett’s journey began at a young age alongside his brother, Greg, helping their father, Charles Hullett, Sr. at the mobile gas station in Morrison. Interestingly, Charles also won the Morrison Citizen of the Year award in 1996. In 1991, they demolished the mobile gas station and built a new convenience store. In 2002, they relocated and moved across the street, which is now known as Hullett’s Tire and Lube.
At the age of 14, Hullett started working full time, learning the trade of pumping gas as well as changing oil and tires. Despite his young age, Hullett understood the importance of hard work, honesty and taking care of customers.
Hullett continues to embody these values in his daily interactions with customers, employees and neighbors. He goes above and beyond to ensure his customers’ satisfaction, whether it’s helping change a flat tire on the side of the road or a dead battery at home. His fair and honest treatment of customers has earned him a reputation as a trustworthy and reliable business owner.
Beyond his customers, Hulletts’ leadership skills extend to his collaborative approach, working closely with his team and sharing their responsibilities. Two employees who have worked with him for over 25 years have noted his exceptional leadership and the respect he shows to each of his team members. Hullett treats them like family and is always willing to help them in any way he can.
As a community member, Hullett is always ready to lend a helping hand. He is involved in various community events, donating what is needed to support any ball team, school fundraiser or community initiative. Today, after many years of hard work and dedication, Charlie Sr., Charlie Jr. and his son Chase work together at Hullett’s Tires and Lube, carrying on their father’s legacy and continuing to serve the community for generations to come.
Meals at the banquet can be purchased for $12 per person. To make reservations, call Mike Holland at (931) 235-3350.
