Interstate construction to halt for Easter travel

The Tennessee Department of Transportation is halting all interstate construction over the Easter holiday weekend.

According to TDOT, all work crews and contractors will stop all road construction that requires lane closures between 6 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Monday.

“This will provide maximum roadway capacity to motorists expected to travel across the state this upcoming holiday weekend,” TDOT said in a press release. “Motorists will still encounter some long-term lane closures on construction projects that will remain in place. While lane closure activity will be stopped, some workers may be on-site in construction zones, and reduced speed limits will still be in effect.”

TDOT is urging all motorists to adhere to the posted speed limits, especially in work zones, as slower speeds are necessary in those areas due to the temporary layout of the roadway.

“Please also move over and slow down for HELP Units and other first responders assisting motorists,” TDOT said.

TDOT said there have already been 31 incidents this year involving drivers crashing into TDOT vehicles and equipment.
