A Warren County 5th District county commissioner is resigning, leaving the county two shy.
Lori Judkins announced her resignation from the Warren County Commission on Thursday night during a county Health and Welfare Committee meeting.
“You never know what life is going to throw at you, and it breaks my heart to have to quit something that I love doing, but family always comes first,” said Judkins.
Judkins is in her second year of a four-year term as a Warren County Commis-sioner. She had to make the tough decision to resign due to her mother’s health.
“I have to move in to my mother’s home to care for her and sadly she lives in a different district,” said Judkins.
“We have an amazing group of commissioners that really do have the best interest of our county in mind. I will miss working with them. We didn’t always agree, but that happens. I’ve made such a close relationship with everyone and it breaks my heart to leave,” said Judkins.
Remaining in the 5th District is Commissioner Tyrone Sparkman.
Judkins’ departure leaves a second vacancy on the Warren County Commission. Richard Grissom left in April. His 3rd District vacancy will be on the Aug. 6 Warren County General Election. Bill Martin and Kasey Owens will be on the ballot.
According to the Election Commission administrator Susie Davenport, once the Warren County Commission accepts Judkins’ resignation letter July 20, qualifying papers will be available the following day and the vacancy will be placed on the November ballot. Qualifying deadline is Aug. 20 at 12 p.m.
Whomever is elected in either district will serve until August 2022 when all 24 seats on the Warren County Commission are up for grabs.
