Election - Lesa Scott.jpg
Lesa Scott holds a sign on Election Day and was granted a fifth term by the voters. Her position was the only office job on the ballot which faced opposition. Register of Deeds Wes Williams, Trustee Darlene Bryant and Circuit Court Clerk Casi Cantrell were all on the ballot, but did not face opposition for their jobs. Scott ran unopposed four years ago.

Lesa Scott retained her position as County Clerk on Thursday night and will begin her fifth term on Sept. 1.

During the last election in 2018, Scott ran unopposed and this time she was running against Holly Goolsby Hodges for the position of County Clerk. Both candidates ran as Independents.

Election night was full of many close races, but the County Clerk race had more of a gap with Scott pulling ahead by nearly 3,000 votes. She was pleased with the results and said it is hard to tell if elections like this are going to be close or not.

“I am very happy. You never know with these. It could be close or not, but we were happy with the numbers,” said Scott.

Scott finished with a total of 5,672 votes for 67.51% and Hodges had a total of 2,727 votes for 32.46%.

Scott says she is excited to begin her fifth term as County Clerk and is thankful for all the people who came out and voted for her.

“I appreciate all the voters who put as back in,” said Scott.

The County Clerk servers a four-year term.

The County Clerk’s office provides the following services: vehicle registration and renewal, marriage license, hunting and fishing license, business license, County Court minutes, duplicate titles, passports, notaries, and boat registration and renewal.
