You could call it a tail about love.

Ariel the mermaid loses her tail in search of her prince charming in the enchanting  Disney story “The Little Mermaid.”

The musical is set for this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Park Theater. Show times are 7 p.m. each day with an additional 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday.

Dream Reality Group is producing the show five years after its first-ever play, a non-Disney version of “The Little Mermaid.”

“Five years ago, we did an off-brand version of this show but with Park Theatre Group backing us now we can afford the Disney version,” said Dream Reality Group founder Logan Taylor. “It’s been five years of growing and learning and this is such a great show. It’s everything you expect from Disney.”

The play tells the story of a mermaid named Ariel who saves a human prince who falls overboard. Ariel sings to Prince Eric during the rescue and falls in love with him in the process.

“All he knows her by is her voice,” said Caden Stubblefield, who plays Prince Eric. “So he’s left to search for someone with that voice.”

The catch is Ariel also wants to find Prince Eric so she makes a deal with the evil Ursula to transform her into a human for three days.

The deal gives Ariel legs instead of a tail, but there is a stipulation.

“I steal her voice and she gets human legs,” said Mara Karcher, who plays Ursula. “If she kisses a prince in three days, she gets to keep her legs, but I can’t let that happen so I put all sorts of obstacles in place.”

Asked if she likes playing the bad guy, Karcher said, “I’ve been working on my evil laugh. It’s fun being over-the-top wicked.”

It’s the 20th production for Dylan Womack, who landed the leading role of Ariel.

“It’s like a dream come true, but it’s also nerve-racking to play a character that so many people know,” said Womack.

The play features a cast of entertaining characters, including lobster Sebastian who tries to guide Ariel on the right path. The musical includes all the hit songs fans of the movie have come to love.

“My favorite song is ‘Under the Sea,’” said Stubblefield. “There’s a lot of high energy and great choreography during that song. It’s a lot of fun.”

Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the door or online from the Park Theater website.
