Regional winners have been announced from the Tennessee Technological University (TTU)’s 66th Annual Cumberland Plateau Regional Science and Engineering Fair.
Twelve students from Warren County placed in the Junior Division (sixth, seventh and eighth grade) in Cookeville last week. There were 10 winners from Warren County Middle School and two from Eastside Elementary.
Jennifer Shaw, WCMS’s eighth-grade science teacher and science fair facilitator was thrilled with the results.
“I am just so proud of these kids,” said Shaw, “It was a really great first-time experience for them. Getting to go to Tennessee Tech with their projects and compete against other students in the area was a highlight for them.”
She adds that it would not have been possible without the financial assistance of the McMinnville Rotary Club.
“They helped pay for our bus and other expenses,” says Shaw. “The money would not have been there without them.”
Shaw brought 28 students to Cookeville by bus to participate in the college science fair.
Jennifer Heath, an Eastside Elementary science teacher, was super proud of her award-winning pair as well. Analiyah McBee and Izzy Gretzinger took first place in the earth and environmental sciences category.
There were 10 student winners from WCMS. They included: behavioral and social sciences category, third place, Payne Bryant; second place, Leeloo Grissom and Ana Lara; and first place, Navaeh Roark and Anniebelle Scott.
Chemical science category, third place, Addyson Cooper.
Physics, astronomy and mathematics category, second place, Zander Smith and Harmony Jordan.
The Marvin Tidwell Overall junior division winners were Hollyn Fuston and Ellie Sutton.
Warren County sixth, seventh and eighth graders held their own county-wide fair in March. The first- and second-place winners from that event went on to compete in Cookeville.
