A South Carolina resident was arrested in Warren County after allegedly placing a tracking device on a vehicle and later stealing from the victim.

According to the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, Jeremy L. Reynolds was arrested on May 12 for aggravated burglary, financial exploitation of an elderly or vulnerable adult and electronic tracking of a motor vehicle. The arrest was made when a complaint was filed by an 85-year-old victim. The victim reportedly met Reynolds through a coworker and he allegedly stole property from her home while she was away by placing an Apple tracking device on her vehicle.

After an investigation by Warren County investigators Gary Kemper and Spencer Pryor, warrants were issued for Reynold’s arrest.

According to the warrant, the victim reported that on the morning of April 24 or 25, Reynolds stated how dirty her vehicle was and offered to take it to the car wash for her. The victim allowed him to do it, but on April 26, she began receiving alerts on her phone regarding an Apple AirTag, but was unsure at the time what it meant.

When she got home from a dentist appointment, she noticed several pieces of jewelry were missing from her jewelry box as well as several silver dollars and half dollars she had kept in a box under her bed. According to the warrant, approximately $11,500 worth of jewelry and coins are missing.

She spoke to a friend about the situation and they advised her to check her car for an Apple tracking device. According to the warrant, when she looked in her trunk, she found the Apple AirTag and discovered that someone had taken a box containing personal items such as her passport.

She reportedly texted Reynolds and he informed her he had left town and went to North Carolina for a surgery he needed. She believed Reynolds placed the AirTag in her car in order to track her and make it easier to know when she was not home. Reynolds reportedly purchased the AirTag at McMinnville Walmart.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Department is asking the public to look at Reynolds’ photo and if anyone has any information of Reynolds involving himself with any other elderly person, please contact either Investigator Kemper or Investigator Pryor at (931) 473-8032 or through the non-emergency E-911 center at (931) 668-7000.
