Local firefighters responded to a pair of structure fires on opposite ends of the county during a 30-minute span Monday evening.
Just after 6 p.m. Monday, North Warren Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 8953 W. Green Hill Rd. Firefighters from Centertown and Campaign-Rock Island departments responded to lend mutual aid.
According to a statement from NWFD, heavy fire conditions were noted in the back second story of the structure. Fighting the blaze from both the exterior and interior of the structure, the fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished. All occupants, including animals, were accounted for with no injuries. According to property tax records, the property is owned by Steven and Angela Dunkerson.
During Monday’s incident, one firefighter suffered a medical emergency and was cared for on the scene by medical personnel before being airlifted from the site. The firefighter’s name was not released.
“We are thankful for the care provided by WCEMS as well as Air Evac 44,” NWFD said in it’s statement. “The firefighter was immediately taken to definitive care and is expected to make a full recovery.
“We thank you for your thoughts and prayers for this firefighter and incident. We also thank you for your continued support to our department and all of our personnel.”
Just prior to the W. Green Hill Rd. call, McMinnville Fire Department responded to 133 Winding Way for a reported fire in the rear wall of a single-family home owned by Old Home Place Properties, LLC.
The cause of the fire was suspected to be electrical, and although heavy smoke filled the home, the situation was quickly brought under control and MFD terminated its command on the scene at 6:15 p.m., approximately 40 minutes after receiving the call.
