An armed robber who pointed a gun at a man sleeping in his own bed was sentenced Wednesday to serve one year in jail.
Ronald Cole Pratt, 24, entered a guilty plea to robbery on Wednesday before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley and was ordered to serve 365 days in jail of a total 10-year sentence. The rest of his time will be served on probation.
The home invasion armed robbery occurred Nov. 9, 2020 at a Vinewood Road apartment complex.
“The victim stated he woke up at about 3 p.m. to find a man standing in his bedroom,” said McMinnville Police Lt. Ben Cantrell. “He works the night shift so he sleeps during the day. The man brandished a firearm and said, ‘I’m going to need your wallet and your cellphone.’ The victim complied. The man took the items and left.”
The victim was able to identify the man who robbed him at gunpoint.
“He recognized the man as one of his son’s acquaintances,” said Cantrell. “Mr. Pratt was arrested in Coffee County. He had a stolen firearm in his possession.”
Without a landline telephone or another cellphone handy, the victim drove from his home to a local business to call for emergency assistance.
