Predicted snow causes closures

Due to this morning’s potential for severe snowfall, several county services will be either closed to the public or operating under restricted hours today.

The Warren County Health Department office will be closed Friday, as will the local office of the McMinnville-Warren County Senior Center, which follows the same protocols as schools, which are closed today, regarding safety during times of inclement weather.

In addition, offices of the Upper Cumberland Development District (UCDD) and Upper Cumberland Human Resources Association (UCHRA) will also be closed. UCHRA will suspend its public transportation operations beginning at noon today.

Out of an abundance of caution, General Sessions Judge Ryan J. Moore has also decided to cancel court dockets for Monday, Jan. 13, citing safety concerns for defendants and litigants who may have to travel to the courthouse for proceedings. The court house will also be closed Friday.

The Park Theater has announced the Ultimate Oldies show scheduled for Saturday has been moved to March 7.

Also, the Sanitation Department’s convenience center at the Warren County Fairgrounds will be closing at 2 p.m., allowing citizens the opportunity to dispose of their household garbage and recyclable materials.

Sanitation Department Director Josh Roberts noted his department will access the weather and any potential safety issues for Saturday, Jan. 11, and will then determine if any of the county’s convenience centers will be able to open.

“The closures are due to inclement weather and the safety concerns associated with the incoming snow and ice this Friday through the weekend,” Roberts said. “We understand that the services our department provides for Warren County citizens are essential and we will do everything in our power to re-open all sites as soon as it is safe to do so.”

Anyone with questions about potential closures of any other government services are encouraged to attempt to call before venturing out into this weekend’s weather.
