The McMinnville Silver and Gold Band will be getting into the holiday spirit with its annual Christmas Concert.

The concert will be on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. in the First Baptist Church sanctuary. Many classic Christmas hits will be played during this concert and band member Ron Young says it will get you ready for Christmas.

“It will include everything from a jazzy Frosty the Snowman to a reverent Silent Night. Admission is free and is sure to get you and your family in the Christmas spirit,” said Young.

The Silver and Gold Band is thought to be the oldest continuously active community band in the state of Tennessee, dating back to the 1800’s. Young says it currently has 25 brass, woodwind and percussion players including eight retired band directors. The band is currently led by former Warren County band director Mike Chilcutt.

In addition to the concert band’s performance, the brass quintet will also perform many holiday numbers. The band is also always looking to welcome new members. If you are an accomplished musician or just have not gotten your instrument out since high school, Young says this is a good way to get back into playing with some good people. For more information contact Chilcutt at 931-473-3856.

The band invites everyone to come and enjoy the Christmas concert.

“We look forward to seeing you at our concert and sharing the holiday spirit,” said Young.
