A very Black House Christmas

The Black House held a classic country-style Christmas this weekend. About 150 people came by to tour and partake of the festivities at the beautiful old physician’s home in downtown McMinnville this weekend.

Santa Claus was there Friday night making merry near the fragrant cedar Christmas tree strung with real cotton balls, popcorn and cranberries. The Black House crew offered delicious homemade refreshments including gingerbread men and real orange slices. New Board President Veronica Sparkman was on hand dressed as an elfish Mrs. Claus Saturday along with board members Mary Rodriguez and Shanna Caldwell. They, too, were dressed up in period garb from a Southern Belle to an enterprising Western horsewoman over the weekend. Detailed informational tours were offered upstairs and downstairs by board members as well.

Sparkman was delighted with the turn out.  “It went really well. A good amount of money was raised that will go to the maintenance of the house. Our next scheduled public event is May 1 with a classic May Day Festival.”

Volunteers are crucial to the future of the Black House and the preservation of history in Warren County. If interested in helping at the Black House, contact Sparkman at 931-273-2821.
