The bricks have landed.
A mission to relocate commemorative bricks from VFW Post 5064 on Sparta Highway to a new home with the sale of that property has had a successful completion. The bricks are now located at Warren County Memorial Airport.
Airport manager Richard Crawford says the bricks are happily nestled.
“We were given the commemorative bricks by County Executive Jimmy Haley,” said Crawford. “We wanted to give them a good home.”
In 2014, VFW began selling commemorative bricks to honor veterans and as a fundraiser. A memorial featuring those bricks with the names of veterans, date of service, and the logo of which branch of service, was placed in an area in front of the VFW so it could be seen by motorists as they passed.
When VFW post members sold the property earlier this year, the fate of the bricks was up in the air.
Crawford said the final stages of the bricks’ placement has yet to be sealed, specifically hiring a company to do just that in order to make the bricks more presentable for viewing.
No timeframe has been set for that work to be complete.
