A warning sign with flashing light was placed Monday morning on Spring Street.
The sign that states “Dangerous Intersection” and was placed by McMinnville Public Works Department. Located beside First Baptist Church, the sign warns inbound motorists to the possibility of danger at Spring Street and Donnell Street.
Back in April, the mother of Katelyn Rogers issued a plea for McMinnville officials to take action to protect motorists.
“We are the family of the deceased,” said Penelope Rogers. “We can’t bring our children back, but something needs to be put there. We don’t want anyone else to feel what we are feeling. There needs to be a three-way stop, a light, or something there. I sat there for an hour watching people come out of there and up the hill. Something needs to be done before we lose someone else. I don’t want anyone else to feel the pain we are feeling.”
Katelyn, 20, and Bryan Jennings, 21, were killed at the intersection in late March when the motorcycle they were riding on Spring Street collided with an SUV pulling from Donnell.
Along with the warning light, traffic studies are being conducted at that intersection, one by the Tennessee Transportation Assist-ance Program and one by students from the University of Tennessee.
Those studies have yet to be completed.
