A 30-year-old woman was fatally injured in a wreck on Shellsford Road Monday night.

According to State Trooper Richard Teachout, Stephanie Murphy was traveling north on Shellsford Road in a 2005 Scion at approximately 7 p.m. Murphy reportedly topped the hill and lost control of her vehicle. Teachout says she entered the ditch on the opposite side of the road. When she exited the ditch, she entered a skid and began sliding.

Monty Jones, 52, and his son were traveling southbound on Shellsford Road at this time. Jones struck Murphy’s vehicle in the driver’s side door. Murphy was fatally injured.

“Murphy was airlifted to Erlanger where she passed away due to her injuries,” said Teachout.

Teachout said Jones and his son were transported to Ascension Saint Thomas River Park Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. No citations were issued. Murphy did not have any passengers in her vehicle.

Teachout says this is the second vehicle fatality this year.
